Watercolor appeals to Taylor. "It won't let you linger over it." At an early age he knew he wanted to be an artist. Studying the masters of Chinese dynasties, later drawing from Greek and Roman sculpture casts, and finally leading him to university studies.

During his extensive career, Taylor studied Set Design at Yale, then designed over 100 productions all over the US, including over 20 shows on Broadway. His career led to designing over 700 TV commercials, many winning Clios.

R. U. Taylor was a designer for the VFX motion control film; Back to the Future - The Ride, for Douglas Trumbull, Universal Studios FL and the 6-acre entertainment floor for Luxor, Las Vegas. Some of the set designs for feature films include: Judge Dredd, Eraser, Starship Troopers, and VFX planning for The Matrix.
